Actor equips upcoming talents with skills

The idea behind the project is to use theater or acting as a way to teach, explore, foster critical thinking, foster a sense of community, inspire the creative mind, and develop talented performers.

Renowned for his portrayal of Malume Jakes on e.tv’s Scandal, Sphesihle Zondi will now share his talent with the Soweto community.

The 51-year-old has introduced a project to teach young people about acting.

In an interview with Urban News, Zondi said the idea is to use theatre and acting to teach, explore, foster critical thinking, foster a sense of community, inspire the creative mind and develop talented performers.

“My goal is to empower young people by equipping them with skills that will lead to work opportunities and enable them to become business entrepreneurs who can reduce poverty and generate employment in the future,” he said.

Zondi said he aspires to support young brains, theoretically and practically, especially those in schools, using his acting education from the Durban University of Technology.

“This project will focus on helping Grade 12 learners better understand the set works and plays they study.

“Working on school set works helps to bridge the gap between the classroom and the literature experience,” explained Zondi.

He said the Saturday classes are open to people aged 15 to 30 and are specifically for those who want to learn the skills of the performing arts, with the main focus on acting, which will run concurrently with dance and music.

“Those who want to be part of the project will have a great opportunity to learn from the best.

They resume at 10:00 every Saturday. Anyone wanting to be part of the programme can call Sphesihle on 082 718 5743.
