The City of Johannesburg speaker of council, Nobuhle Mthembu, has joined the global community in commemorating the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign.

Many crimes related to violence against women and children go unreported, and there is often a failure to protect victims from law enforcement.

In line with this year’s theme, Mthembu is highlighting the importance of addressing the root causes of GBV and promoting positive masculinity.

She urges men to challenge harmful gender norms and stereotypes and to actively participate in creating a society free from violence.

“We must all work together to end the cycle of violence that has plagued our communities for far too long,” said Mthembu.

“Men have a crucial role to play in protecting women and children and ensuring that they can live their lives without fear.”

The speaker’s office remains committed to advocating for equal opportunities for all, particularly women and children.
