Young athletes take part in Soweto race

Youth from the Soweto, local athletics clubs and university clubs from around Gauteng participated in the last ZET Sinqe Series Run event for 2024.

The Zithulele Sinqe Foundation, in partnership with Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA), hosted the last of its three ZET Sinqe Series Run events for 2024 at the Elkah sports grounds in Soweto, with almost 300 youth showcasing their athletic abilities.

With a mission to scout for athletic talent among youth, the ZET Sinqe Series is preceded by athletic coaching clinics conducted by professional coaches from the CGA.

Youth from the Soweto, local athletics clubs and university clubs from around Gauteng participated in the last ZET Sinqe Series Run event for 2024. The winners scored their portion of the prize money up for grabs.

Operating in disadvantaged communities, the ZET Sinqe Series is a purpose-driven, talent-scouting initiative under the umbrella of the Zithulele Sinqe Foundation, named after the late and legendary athlete.

Zithulele Sinqe firmly believed that sports had the power to remove people from poverty. As a development coach, he dedicated part of his time to identifying talented athletes from disadvantaged communities, aiming to transform their lives through sports.

“It is for this reason that we embrace and appreciate our partners and sponsors, Mr Price Sport, the African Pioneer Group, Glenryck Pilchards, the Rhodes Food Group and Bull Brand, who all help us to provide a platform for young athletes to progress to club or professional running.

“The prize money offered at the ZET Sinqe Series Run is not only a draw card or incentive but a much-needed contribution to the households of these youth, where a lack of food is often a real challenge,” says Zintle Mokoka, the co-founder of the Zithulele Sinqe Foundation and daughter of the late legend.
