Mathematics teacher launches book to tackle educational challenges

Author, speaker and mathematics teacher Mbongeni Simelane hosted an education seminar launch for his book, Matric 2031 You Are in Trouble, on October 12 at Soweto Theatre, Jabulani.

The event presented the contents of Simelane’s book and demonstrated to the general public its impact, particularly among school educators.

Simelane unpacks tools and tips in the book to empower the South African education system.

Speaking to Soweto Urban News, Simelani said: “Today we invited different stakeholders because we want to make our education to become better. One of the things that inspired us to do this it is that we saw that in 2020 and 2021 our children never got a chance to go to schools properly because of Covid-19.

“They are now in Grade Five and by 2031 they will be in matric. We are trying to assist them because they didn’t receive a proper educational foundation’’

He said his goal is to ensure that the challenges faced by the education system are addressed and that teachers have the training they need to excel in math and science even in the face of scarce resources.

The event was attended by teachers, education experts, officials from different stakeholders, SGB members, varsity students and parents.

Founder of Nubian Smart, an organisation that is passionate about positively impacting the future of Africa through engaging in revolutionary educational games, Lungile Maile said: “I believe that this book is long overdue. A lot of work needs to be done in terms of helping teachers who deal with grades one and three.”

She added that the book will support teachers who are passionate about changing life to help learners prosper.
