Home Affairs brings services to Zola residents

The department deployed several mobile units, reaching out to communities that experiences difficulties in accessing Home Affairs offices.

Nzuza said the service they provided to the community was high in demand.

“We brought up seven mobile units. We took new ID applications for those who turned 16 or those who are first-time applicant which is a free service, “We also did re-issues for those who have lost their IDs.

“We also looked at those applying for a smart card,’’ he said.

He encouraged the South Africans who use green barcode IDs to move to smart cards.

Some of the residents who were at the outreach programme.

“We have realised that for historical reasons there a lot of people around Zola and Emdeni who do not want to have an ID because they believe that to live a certain life of crime you must not be seen.

“Another issue focusses on marriages of convenience that happened a long time ago,’’ he said.

Nzuza raised concerns regarding several people who have failed to provide reasons why the department should not block their IDs.

“We have given people a chance to make a declaration on why we should unblock their ID.”
