Festival brings families together in Meadowlands

The day was filled with different activities to accommodate both children and adults.

Soweto Home Coming Festival (SHC) is aimed at bringing families together while having fun with different activities.

The event was hosted at Zone 7 Shakabowa Meadowlands on October 5.

Sandile Ndebele, who is part of the marketing team, said: “Today is all about family. We even have those who are not from the community who showed their support.”

Happier Mkhupa from Riverside, Fourways, said it has been a beautiful experience, especially in Soweto.

“I am here with my friends and family and we are having fun. I will be back again,” said Mkhupa.

Co-founder of Friends with Style (a local clothing brand), Kgotso Nape, said: “We chose to showcase our products because we come from the community and want to expose ourselves within this environment first.”

He said they also design matric jackets and netball kits.

Local artists like Karsoul, Son of Deep and Cranky T played their sets and Bridge the MC was the MC for the day.

Martha Mothibi said they are grateful for the support they receive from the community. “This is an event by the community to the community to enjoy themselves,” said Mothibi.
