New hall for Progress Comprehensive High School

The Gauteng Legislature visited Progress Comprehensive High School in Pimville to sight-see because it will donate towards building a hall for the school on October 1.

Member of the legislature Matshidiso Mfikoe steered the donation towards the school because she was a former learner there.

Mfikoe said, “This school made me what I am today and drove my career as a politician. I feel the need to assist in uplifting the school.”

She said she wanted to help by leaving something significant and uplifting the community.

The School Governing Body (SGB) members and officials from the Gauteng Legislature toured the school and inspected the site where the hall will be built.

SGB chairperson Samson Marshall said it is a dream come true because they have been looking for such.

“We, as a school, are excited about this project, which is long overdue,” said Marshall.

“This is a humbling experience for a former learner to think of ploughing back to her former school. We have had problems when matriculants have to write their exams and must occupy about eight classrooms, disrupting the running of the school,” said Caroline Monageng, the school principal.

The Chinese Consulate General will make the donation through the Gauteng Legislature and hopes the project will be complete by the end of November.
