Eldorado Park’s Deveney Pretorius (12) has made her community proud by becoming the first junior from Eldos to participate in the Cross Country SA National Championships in 15 years.
Pretorius, a member of the Brotherhood Athletic Club, represented Nancefield Primary School at the Cross Country SA National Championships.
She finished 60th competing against 160 runners in the girls’ U12 3km category at the championships held in Vaal on September 7.

Her outstanding performance at the Provincial Cross Country competition in Kagiso on August 17 earned her a spot to represent Gauteng at the national championships.
Oscar Johnson, coach and teacher at Nancefield Primary School, praised Pretorius’ dedication.
“Our learners trained daily, and Brotherhood AC played a significant role in developing our athletes.”
School pride
Principal Susan Mabaso expressed her pride in Pretorius, saying that they wish her well and hope for more representation in the future.
“Very proud teachers and assistant staff as Deveney is one of the exemplary learners.
“We just need to support our youngsters and pray that God will bless us in our endeavours to eradicate all the ills in our society.”
