Women from the Masakhane organisation gathered on September 28 at the Isijula Boutique Hotel in Zuurbekom to discuss their difficulties as married women at home and in society.

“In most cases, problems that they are suffering from in their marriages cannot be understood by unmarried people. The group allows an opportunity to relate to others with similar issues.

“We want to make sure that married women don’t suffer from depression or suicidal thoughts because marriage is not easy and what we face as married women is very challenging.

“We want to ensure that we guide women to stay in marriages not because they want to make society happy, but because they are in a healthy marriage,” she said.

Masakhane administrator, Enzokuhle Millie, said the group helps them a lot as married women because they face many challenges.

“The organisation offers a healthy platform to communicate our problems freely without being judged by anyone.

“Not everything is simple to share with our families. As a married woman, I now belong to my husband’s family so sharing things with them is not simple. In the group, no one chooses sides and we are honest,’’ said Millie.

She stated that in the future, the organisation hopes to accommodate all women, including those who are not married but are in relationships, so that they may give them a platform to talk about the problems.
