Career Day Expo inspires the next generation of leaders

The Lesego Tau Education Foundation and the Doornkop Community Engagement Structure (CES) hosted a career day expo at Tshepisong Multipurpose Centre on September 18.

The career expo was sponsored by Harmony Gold Mine in partnership with the Department of Education Johannesburg West and Gauteng West District and the City of Johannesburg Sports and Recreation.

A total of 550 learners from 11 secondary schools, including PJ Simelane Secondary, Forte High School, George Khoza Secondary, Thulani Secondary, Sebetsa O Thole Moputso Secondary, Siyabusa Secondary, Lufhereng Secondary, Wiseman Cele Secondary, Raymond Mhlaba S.O.S, Lodirile High School, and Winifred Nomzamo Mandela Secondary attended.

The expo aimed to provide valuable insights into various professions, enlighten learners about potential career options, and ignite their passion for future success in the engineering and mining industry.

Stakeholder relations manager at Lesego Tau Education Foundation, Rethabile Moloim said: “We were targeting the Grade Nine class because learners are beginning to develop a sense of self-identity and interests.

“Career guidance helps them explore their strengths, weaknesses, interests, and values, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future.”

She said that they aimed to provide a platform where learners could explore various career paths, interact with professionals, and gain insights into different occupations within the mining fraternity.

“Career guidance plays a crucial role in helping learners explore their interests, set goals, make informed decisions, and prepare for their future careers.”

Member of the CES, Angie Mathe, said; “We thank Harmony Gold Mine for their generous sponsorship. Such support was instrumental in making the event a resounding success. Thank you to all other roleplayers who made an invaluable contribution to the shared success.”
