Prayer session held in Meadowlands to combat crime

Colonel Albert Siweya read the increased stats of the various crimes in the area. He also asked residents to play their part in fighting crime in the community.

The SAPS and Siyadingana Sonke held a prayer and awareness session at Zone 2, Meadowlands, in the hopes that it would help combat the area’s increasing crime rate.

Bishop Abel Chauke of the St Augustine Apostolic Church opened the ceremony by encouraging the residents to love each other as they love themselves.

“This has become such a filthy world that we do not look out for each other, and that is why a neighbour can get hurt or robbed while we, as neighbours or the community, are around. It is so disappointing that the ubuntu spirit is no more,” said Chauke.

“We will need you, as the community, to help when criminal activities happen in our community.

“We also started these sessions because we saw a need for prayer and the community to help combat crime. We cannot do it alone,” said Siweya.

An elder of the community, Mapule Mangope, said the community needs to stop enabling those who steal by buying stolen goods from them.

“As parents, when your child brings stolen goods, let us not buy from them but question them instead,” said Mangope.

Apostle Mandla Mbatha of Divine Intervention closed the ceremony with a prayer, praying for the community and the SAPS.
