“Delicious different kota flavours will be sold at the venue along with beverages, ice creams and many other kasi treats,” said Tshingilane.

He added that park and rides will also be available at different malls around Soweto so that transport can be easily accessible to the public.

Also in another ground-breaking move to enhance the digital capability of traders and safety of everyone attending the festival, Nedbank has announced that it will provide state-of-the-art Point of Sale (POS) devices to selected vendors at the Soweto Kota Festival.

This initiative is part of Nedbank’s broader strategy to support Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), whether sole props or formally registered, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to thrive in a digital economy.

“Considering that 1% of informal retailers in South Africa accept electronic payments and 56% do not have access to a bank account, equating to massive volumes of cash usage, we are thrilled that the small businesses that will be trading at the festival will be able to maximise their sales and optimise on revenue generation due to their broader range of payments they can accept,” said Monique Chinnah, Senior Manager of Segment Design and Development at Nedbank.

“By equipping vendors with POS devices, we are not only enabling them to adapt to digital payment methods but also reinforcing our dedication to empowering local businesses and driving economic development.”

For the past seven years, the Soweto Kota Festival has been playing a pivotal role in creating employment opportunities, not only for individuals but for small businesses too.

Tshingilane said, “It’s the seventh year of the Blue Ribbon Soweto Kota Festival so this shows that we are growing and hoping that in future the festival will grow even bigger.”

Festival goes can expect a kids’ entertainment area with activities including swimming pools, jumping castles and face paintings. The event will also consist of performances by top DJs and local artists.
