At this stage, the body of Kgothatso Tholwana remains at a government mortuary as the family waits to give him a dignified funeral.

The death of Kgothatso Tholwana, a 13-year-old boy who drowned in an abandoned building at Power Park has left his family shattered and heartbroken.

Little Kgothatso was visiting his aunt at Orlando and had accompanied one of his friends to get material for a school project when he saw what was described as light in the old building.

He eagerly went to have a look and that was when he slipped into the water.

“According to what I heard, his friends saidQ they heard him scream for help and his body coming up and back down into the water.

“They said they threw in a rope however it was not strong enough to lift him up,” said Ntshbane.

Kgothatso’s grandmother is a pensioner and says the household depends on her as she is the only one that has a source of income.

Her children are unemployed and she does not know where to start.

The family said Kgothatso’s body is still at a government mortuary while they are still looking for help in order to give him a dignified send off.

The family also said they have not heard from or seen the councillor since the passing of the young boy.

They have requested for any help they can receive from the public as they say funeral preparations have not started as they do not have the funds to do anything.
