Curro Academy Protea Glen hosts a thrilling soccer festival

The exciting event brought together more than 500 soccer lovers from various Curro schools across Gauteng and Limpopo.

Parents and leaners at Curro Academy Protea Glen enjoyed some diski action this past weekend when the school played host to the Soccer Festival on Saturday, August 24.

Aimed to showcase and uncover talent from the education institution, the Soccer Festival was hosted in partnership with the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools (PMSS) initiative.

The school has been at the forefront of nurturing and empowering young sports stars, in particular on the soccer field.

The festival brought together more than 500 soccer lovers from various Curro schools from across Gauteng and Limpopo.

The Curro Academy Protea Glen sports fields became a hive of activities when teams from the participating schools went head to head.

At stake were medals and trophies over and above bragging rights about which school is the best when it comes to the beautiful game.

Throughout the day, 210 medals were awarded to players, recognising their achievements on the sports field.

Teams were not divided according to gender as girls played in the same teams with boys, thus demonstrating the power of sports in teaching unity and equality amongst learners at school.

Curro Academy Savanna City secured victory in the under 10 co-ed teams while Meridian Northern Academy from Polokwane emerged victorious in the under 11 girls and boys team.

Meridian also clinched another win in the under 12 co-ed team and Cosmo City claimed the top spot in the under 13 girls and boys.

“As a school, we believe in the transformative power of sports especially soccer as a tool for personal and educational development,” said Johannes Mahlatsi, Executive Head of Curro Academy Protea Glen.

“The success of the Soccer Festival stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work displayed by both the learners and coaches involved in the sport.”
