Five youngsters arrested for armed robbery in Eldos

The suspects were detained after they made off with the victim's cellphone, cash, and bank cards.

In a swift operation, the Eldorado Park SAPS arrested five suspects, including four 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old for armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen goods on August 17.

According to the Eldorado Park SAPS Media Liaison Officer, Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, a complainant was robbed at gunpoint while picking up clients in Eldorado Park.

The suspects made off with the victim’s cellphone, cash, and bank cards.

Acting swiftly on the complaint’s information, the Eldorado Park SAPS Operation Teka Hinkwaswo team successfully traced the suspects to a nearby tavern.

“They discovered the suspects attempting to use the victim’s bank card to buy alcohol.

“Although the robbery firearm was not immediately recovered, it was later found and secured as evidence,” said Sergeant Khobo.

She said two of the suspects had previously been arrested for the same crime, highlighting a concerning cycle of recidivism among underage offenders.

Brigadier Mkhacani Maluleke, the Station Commander expressed frustration that these repeat offenders are released back into parental care, only to continue committing crimes.
