The Eldorado Park police have arrested an Ethiopian spaza shop operator aged
25 for the unlawful possession of ammunition and attempted bribery of police officials at Witteberg Street, EXT 2, Eldorado Park.
The suspect was found in possession of a magazine, 15 live rounds of ammunition and boxes containing prescribed medication hidden in the ceiling inside the shop.

According to the Eldorado Park SAPS Media Liaison officer, Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, the information that led to the arrest was revealed during a meeting with an informant on August 18.
The informant told the police that there were unlicensed firearms and ammunition and that the shop operator was receiving goods that were robbed from Uber and Bolt drivers.
Upon unmasking the suspects’ identity and address, the police acted on the tip-off and arrested the suspect.
They seized a magazine, ammunition, few boxes of medication and R1500 cash which he tried to bribe the police with for bribery however, the firearms was not found.

“The 25-year-old suspect revealed that his Ethiopian brother came in the early hours and took the two firearms and left to an unknown address in the Johannesburg CBD,” said Sergeant Khobo.
She said the brother of the suspect had not been identified yet, and the subject was unable to provide adequate information on his brother’s whereabouts and the firearms.
The suspect was detained at Eldorado Park SAPS.
