Wow Mom celebrates Women’s Day with local elderlies

The purpose of the event was to bring together elderly people from different parts of Soweto so they could interact and have a delectable meal that had been prepared for them.

Wow Mom, an organisation that assists women in the community with their issues hosted a Woman’s Day event for local women on August 09 at Jabulani.

Founder of Wow Mom, Bongiwe Nkomo said, “The aim of today’s event is to express gratitude to all the women who contribute significantly to keeping the community well-maintained.

“The women we have invited today, they all play important roles in their homes and in the community. So we are here to honour them for their hard work.”

The organisation invited eye doctors and nurses to check on the health of the elderlies and many of them expressed gratitude for the chance to get medical evaluation.

“As part of our programme, we thought it was crucial for seniors to get checked.

“We also know that some of them occasionally miss clinic appointments due to unanticipated events, so we wanted to make these crucial services more accessible to them,” added Nkomo.

Speaking to Urban News, one of the attendees, Thokozile Dlongolo said, “I’m thrilled to see that there are kids out there who recognise our roles in life and who understand that women are among the most important people in their lives.

“That being said, I’m really happy with what the Wow Mom initiative has accomplished today.

“I pray that the Lord will bless this initiative so that it continues to grow and help teach young kids the importance of respecting women.”
