Four teenagers arrested over alleged e-hailing robberies in Eldos

Four teenage suspects were arrested for Uber and Bolt robberies and one for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Four teenage boys aged 13, 14, 15 and 16 were arrested by the Eldorado Park SAPS Vispol members, Eldorado Park SAPS CI and Crime Prevention Wardens for alleged e-hailing robberies, on August 3.

This comes after the Eldorado Park SAPS CI office obtained intelligence-driven information on August 2, about a person involved in an Uber and Bolt robbery near Eldorado Park.

Four teenagers were arrested and later released for e-hailing related robberies, on August 3.

In addition, the suspect was still in possession of the firearm that was used during the e-hailing robbery at his home located on Boloberg Street, EXT 2, Eldorado Park.

Eldorado Park SAPS Communication Officer, Sergeant Fezeka Khobo said when the police visited the house they found the owner who confirmed that indeed there is a firearm in the house. She further pointed out that a young teenage boy knew about the firearm.

“When asked, the 13-year-old boy admitted to having a firearm and showed the police. Upon inspection it was established to be a silver-grey Gas Gun pistol,” said Sergeant Khobo.

“He claimed that he was given the firearm by a guy known to him to rob Uber and Bolt drivers. They request a ride before robbing the driver and the success of their robberies determines whether they get paid or not.”

The teenage boy admitted to robbing an Uber driver on August 2, with three other friends aged 14, 15 and 16.

Four teenagers were arrested and later released for e-hailing related robberies, on August 3.

The boys were taken to the Police Station for further questioning and interviews. After admitting to the crime, they provided the names of the adult males who sent them money, Sergeant Khobo added.

Despite teenage boys confessing to a serious crime, cases are not opened and perpetrators are not brought to book, according to Brigadier Maluleke, the Eldorado Park SAPS station commander.
