Midas FC outplayed Salem City FC in league game

Midas FC coach unhappy in spite of their 2 – 0 victory during the Eldos LFA, u17 Junior League game.

The head coach of Salem City FC, Kevin Solomons is confident about the club’s improvement despite their recent defeat against Midas FC.

The two sides locked horns in a league match that saw Midas FC claim three points over Salem City FC after winning 2 – 0, during the Eldorado LFA, u17 Junior League clash at Extension 6, Eldorado Park, Soccer Fields, on July 28.

Singawo ‘Sgova’ Gciva netted two goals in the first half; he scored the first goal on the back of a mistake by the opposition players.

His second goal came from a cleared ball that found him unmarked as he made the run. He capitalised on the short height of the goalkeeper and took a long chip over the keeper.

Coach Morgan ‘Oops’ Fakude from Midas FC said it was a disappointing win for them because the players failed to execute instructions.

“It was a disappointing game because despite winning, we did not implement what we practised during our training sessions.

“We could not maintain positions to drag the opponents into our half so that we can find spaces in their defence,” said Fakude.

He said the team would head back to the drawing board and make sure that the boys followed instructions during training because if they failed to prepare, they would be preparing for failure in the league.

Solomons said it was a tough game given that they considered two early goals but the second half showed big improvement from the boys.

“We could see that the boys wanted to play in the second half but we could not get the ball in the net. I think there is a big room for improvement; we need to work on a few things,” said Solomons.

He said the players’ decision-making gave away the game, considering the first goal. The player held on to the ball for too long, he explained.

“They intercepted the ball, caught us with a counterattack and the second one, our central defender pushed too deep into the opposition’s half. Our goalkeeper is short but he is extremely good, most players do not want to play between the poles, they want to be seen in the midfield or attacking.”

He said they would focus on getting more players because they did not have reserves on their bench and add more days to train instead of two sessions a week.

“This was our first-round game against Midas FC, we obviously lost this one but we will bounce back definitely in the second one.

“We currently have one win in the league, we have been struggling. There are games where we lost with high scores like 14 – 0, but we are getting there, we are beginning to see the improvement,” he noted.
