Local sports ground receives combi courts on Mandela Day

Tshedza Foundation Network, in celebration of International Mandela Day donated combi courts sporting facility at Diepkloof on July 18.

People from Diepkloof and other communities in Soweto came in numbers to celebrate the day and witness the opening and handing over of the combi courts and partly reconstructed sports facility.

Milani Masondo, Chairperson of Tshedza Foundation Network said he believes that by investing in the youth and providing them with necessary resources and opportunities, they are investing in the future of Soweto.

“Our gratitude extends to everyone who played a role in bringing this project to success.

“Sports have an incredible power to transform lives, it teaches us the value of teamwork, discipline, and respect.

“This facility is not just a place for physical activity, it is a place where dreams can be pursued and talent can be nurtured,” said Masondo.

“To the youth of Soweto, this is your space, use it to dream and to challenge yourself, to break barriers and reach for the stars. This facility is here to support you every step of the way.”

William Maphutha from the Gauteng Gambling Board encouraged the youth of Soweto to take advantage of sporting activities and also that schools in the community must take advantage of that sporting facility.

“To the community, please form part of those that will become eyes and ears of this area, make sure that you protect and nourish this sporting facility as your own, protect it from vandalism,” Maphutha said.

The MMC of Health and Social Development in the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Eunice Mgcina, Chief Whip of Council Sthembiso Elvis Zungu, and Ward Councillor Godfrey Tshehlo handed over the community combi courts.
