Diepkloof gogo celebrates 100th birthday

Doona was born on July 25 in the year 1924 and was blessed with four children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Tshidikwane Lina Doona celebrated her 100th birthday at Dipekloof Zone 6 in Soweto on July 27 with her friends and family in a jovial party.

Family, neighbours, and friends expressed how happy they were to have been part of the 100 years she has lived.

They are grateful for the fact that in the 100 years that Doona has lived, she is living healthy and still strong enough to perform duties on her own and she does not have any health conditions that most aged people are likely to have.

Eva Teffo, a close relative of Doona spoke on how happy she is to be witnessing such a rare event in the family.

“Today we are celebrating Koko’s 100th birthday. For the first time in our family we get to celebrate such a beautiful milestone which we have never had before, we are so happy and we thank God for this day,” said Teffo.

Pick n Pay Diepkloof Square joined the Doona family in celebrating their granny’s 100th birthday and donated a cake to wish her a joyous birthday.

“We feel so lucky to be invited to such an honourable day as Pick n Pay. We are so happy to witness some of our community members and customers turning 100 years old,” said Caroline Moerane, a Pick n Pay representative.

Moerane added that at Pick n Pay, they are nothing without the elderly and that their contribution to the shop goes a long way in growing the business.

Jake Manabile, a family member was also allowed to say words of gratitude during the celebration.

“It is not every day we get to be part of a 100th birthday celebration programme, the biggest characteristic that Koko carries is to unite people,” Manabile said.

Every speaker spoke about a common thing about Doona, that she is a person who preaches unity amongst all her loved ones. Some described her as a person who loves and unites families.

Doona took a moment to show appreciation to everyone who honoured the invite and expressed how happy she was that her family was in one place. She emphasized how they should always be united and spread love amongst each other.
