Radio station brings warmth to the elderlies in Jabavu on Mandela Day

The initiative also targets those who are abused, neglected, disabled and homeless.

On July 18, International Mandela Day, the Metro FM team took to the Soweto Home for the Aged in Jabavu to donate blankets, assist with cooking and have motivational chats with the elderly people.

The initiative aimed to spread kindness and warmth by collecting and distributing blankets to those in need especially senior citizens.

It also targets those who are abused, neglected, disabled, and homeless as they were honoured in celebration of the late Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

“We are proud to launch this initiative, which embodies the spirit of Madiba and inspires our listeners to make a positive impact in their communities.”

This blanket drive marks the beginning of a series of initiatives by METRO Cares and the SABC Foundation to address various social and economic challenges faced by South African communities.

Through this effort, the radio station aims to unite Metro FM listeners and inspire them to spread love, kindness, and warmth, fostering a sense of community and solidarity throughout the year.

These acts of service happened as the radio station continued broadcasting at the centre and this is what Ndivhu Makhwanya, one of the Metro FM radio hosts shared as his biggest highlight when handing over the blankets and other donations at the centre.

Centre Manager, Phumlani Makhaye shared the joy he has about this act of kindness from the radio station team as a whole.
