14 suspects arrested for the kidnapping of a businessman

14 suspects were arrested for kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as fraud.

On July 15, the Eldorado Park SAPS arrested 14 suspects at Tikiso Street, Zone 4 Diepkloof and Edenvale on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition, fraud and the kidnapping of a Zimbabwean businessman.

The businessman was reportedly robbed, dragged out of his vehicle and shoved inside the suspect’s vehicle at gunpoint near his Devland business premises, as reported by the Eldorado Park SAPS Communication Officer, Sergeant Fezeka Khobo.

A case of kidnapping was reported at Eldorado Park SAPS on July 14 and it was alleged that the suspects were demanding a ransom of at least R500 000.

Multiple speed point machines, cell phones and a large sum of cash belonging to the victim were recovered and the police seized three firearms.

Detectives from Eldorado Park SAPS were tasked with a 24-hour investigation into the kidnapping incident.

They followed a lead to Greenstone Flats in Edenvale where the victim had already been moved. Nine suspects were arrested and a firearm reportedly stolen from Linden SAPS was recovered.

The police rescued the victim and arrested five more suspects including three Chinese and two Zimbabwean nationals.

Stolen properties belonging to the victim, namely multiple speed point machines, cell phones and a large sum of cash were recovered while his two firearms were seized by police.

All 14 suspects were detained for further investigation and will appear in court soon.

The Station Commander, Brigadier Maluleke expressed his gratitude to the dedicated police members.
