Kasi Hero Foundation gives Orlando gogo a helping hand

The neighbours were happy to welcome her back to the community and so are her children.

It has been over three months since Kasi Hero Foundation identified 74-year-old Annah Lekgari who resides at Orlando East, who was living alone with no food, water, and electricity in the house.

After Kasi Hero Foundation intervened and assessed the situation that Lekgari was living under, they took it upon themselves as a foundation to help.

They looked for her family and registered her at Baragwanath psychiatric institution to help reinstate her well-being and mental state.

After being admitted at Bara for a month and two weeks, Lekgari was discharged on July 6 and went back to her warm home that had been renovated and now has electricity, water, and other necessities she needs to survive.

She was also expected to visit relevant offices on June 8 to fix her grant issues so that she can start receiving her old age grant.

Magogo’s house now.

The neighbours were happy to welcome her back to the community and so are her children.

Ali Makamu who is a family friend and a neighbour to the Lekgari family expresses joy over the return of the 74-year-old Magogo.

“I am very happy to see Magogo this happy after a long time. I am happy to have contributed to fixing her house together with Kasi Hero and I hope everyone in the community can welcome and accept her back,” said Makamu.

Although everything has been renovated and fixed in the house, Magogo feels as though she still owes whoever contributed to making sure that the dignity of her house is restored.

“I can see that my house is beautiful but I am not yet happy about it because I feel like I need to pay whoever did this first so that I can be off debt and live freely,” Lekgari said.

She described her hospital stay as jail and how difficult it was for her to get used to such an environment.

Bridget Lekgari, Magogo’s daughter said it all feels like a dream, the house, her mother’s health, and everything regarding her situation

“It was painful to see my mom from far away and couldn’t come near her or even sit down with her.

“She was in a difficult situation which was not easy to rescue her from and if it wasn’t for Kasi Hero then we would still be stuck in that situation,” Bridget said.

Ndivhuwo Liphadzi, the Chairman of Kasi Hero Foundation spoke on how happy they are as a foundation to have finally reached the almost end of the project after having to work for a long time to renovate the house.

“I would like to thank everyone who took part in helping out and supporting us as a foundation.

“Thank you to BI Phakathi, anonymous donors, Bhabuka Landscape and Maintenance and the community of Orlando for being with us from the very first day when we had a cleaning campaign,” Liphadzi.

“We are still asking for donations for the sake of Magogo’s safety. We still need to get a wall around her house as well as a television to keep her indoors.”
