Eldos Chess, Robotics and Coding hosts an open day

The purpose of the event was to demonstrate to the community the nature of the programme and the connections between robotics and chess.

The Eldorado Park Chess, Robotics and Coding Club open day was hosted at Eldomaine High School on Saturday, July 6.

The purpose of the event was to demonstrate to the community the nature of the programme and the connections between robotics and chess.

Junior coach for Eldos Chess, Robotics and Coding Club, Amani Williams said they realised that this programme was necessary to put into place because there isn’t much of such initiatives in local communities such as Eldos.

“Through these programmes, the community is given the chance to advance in life and understand that success is achievable.

“It also aims to show people that, with enough determination, anything is achievable and that your background does have to define your future,” she said.

Addressing the public at the event was the Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development, Lubabalo Magwentshu.

MMC Magwentshu said the Community Development Department and Sports and Recreation in the City of Johannesburg are all about these kinds of initiatives and when they are presented with an opportunity to form part of them, they became honoured to be invited and give support where they can.

“I am particularly proud of the initiators of Eldos Robotics and Coding because there is a need to keep our young people off the streets and empower them with learning skills that will move them to a better future.

“To our young learners, you are the embodiment of perseverance and determination. Despite facing obstacles, you have shown that true strength lies in the ability to keep moving forward, no matter the difficulties,” MMC Magwentshu said.

He further stated that the learner’s dedication in mastering the complexities of chess, the innovation of robotics and the intricacies of coding is truly inspiring.

The day was anticipated with excitement by a number of participants and their parents.

Forest Hill High School emerged victorious in the chess tournament, and they will get 20 chess boards from Eldos Chess, Coding and Robotics.
