Beauty Pageant are not only about glitz and glamour

‘’This is an initiative we should put into place for young girls because we are shaping them and giving them the chance to love themselves."

Uzuri-UA Pageants and Miss Dobsonville Foundation hosted a high tea initiative whereby young women competing in the Sirena Beauty Pageant were given lessons about positively impacting their communities.

The initiative was held on Saturday, June 29 at Dobsonville Extension Three.

CEO of Uzuri-UA pageant and Miss Dobsonville Foundation, Thabang Bhengu said the initiative’s goal is to lead young women in the proper directions and teach them the value of giving back to their communities without expecting anything in return.

“This is a learning programme for our contestants. Our goal is to make sure that once they are crowned, they know what role to play in their communities.

“We also want to equip them with communication skills so they can interact with members of their communities and demonstrate that representing a particular pageant competition doesn’t have to be flashy and glamorous; rather, it can mean setting a positive example for the community,” said Bhengu.

Prominent individuals were also invited to provide the young ladies with words of guidance, inspiration, and building.

Urban News spoke to Mrs. Bold South Africa finalist, Mpho Malambe who said through these programmes, young ladies embarking on pageantry have the chance to gain knowledge from those with experience.

“This is an initiative we should put into place for young girls because we are shaping them, giving them the chance to love themselves, accept who they are, and teach them the value of being kind to their communities.

“It also provides a safe space for them to discuss anything positive or negative they discover about the pageants,’’ she said.

Miss teen Sirena, Lethabo Bopape said she is appreciative of the wonderful opportunity and has learned a lot.

“I have gained a great deal of knowledge from all the amazing women who attended today, and I hope to learn even more in future.”
