Local learners introduced to various career options at Soweto Theatre

Inkitsi Youth Rejuvenation and Re-Branding Association (IYRRA) recently hosted a career day expo, under the theme ‘facing the future with courage.’

The career expo was held at Soweto Theatre, Jabulani with learners from various schools from across Soweto in attendance.

The director of IYRRA, Thabiso Kotane said the purpose of the event was to empower young individuals by providing them with valuable information on career opportunities, academic pathways and avenues for higher education within South Africa.

“Through this career day we want to introduce students to various careers that are not highlighted within the main stream of the educational system.

“We are also providing with more information about careers that are main stream as well,” he said.

Gauteng Department of Social Development, Johannesburg City Parks and Emergency Medical Services were amongst the entities invited.

Forte Secondary School teacher, Thato Nhlapho said, “The career day was very helpful in educating our students about the variety of career opportunities that they can pursue after high school.

“They are very motivated, and we hope that the knowledge they gained from the day will be useful to them during their remaining academic years.”

A Grade 11 learner, Duncan Mokgosi said the career day expo helped him realise that Art may be a career and it was lovely to learn about something new for once.

“I hope I wasn’t the only one who found value in today’s really informative session.

“I sincerely hope that upon leaving these premises today, all learners here will have gained knowledge to succeed, and serve as excellent role models for the coming generation,” said Mokgotsi.
