Four suspects arrested for car hijacking in Eldorado Park

“After the victim responded by saying they did not know Chesi, one male drew a firearm and pointed it at them, threatening to shoot them."

The Eldorado Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit arrested four suspects for Car Hijacking along Kroom Street, Eldorado Park on June 16.

According to Eldorado Park SAPS Communication Officer, Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, the victim was with his friends, standing next to his mother’s white Toyota Corolla, when a Grey Toyota Corolla stopped next to them.

The occupants who were three unknown males and two females got out from the vehicle and asked where Chesi was.

“After the victim responded by saying they did not know Chesi, one male drew a firearm and pointed it at them, threatening to shoot them.

“The victim was further assaulted with the firearm and bricks on his head. Another male suspect grabbed the car keys from the victim before they drove away with the vehicle,” said Sergeant Khobo.

The Crime Prevention Unit members were stopped by a female who alleged that they were robbed of their vehicle during their normal patrol along St. Vincent Street Eldorado Park EXT 9.

“Police pounced on the hijacked vehicle at Kroom Street; the victim identified the Toyota Corolla as the vehicle used by the suspects. Four suspects were arrested after they were positively identified by the victim.”

Police recovered an empty shell cartridge, however, the victim’s vehicle and firearm used were not found. It is alleged that two suspects (male and female) drove away with the victim’s vehicle.

The arrested suspects were detained at Eldorado Park SAPS for further investigation; their vehicle was booked at Lenasia SAPS 13 camp.

Station Commander, Brigadier Maluleke applauded the Crime Prevention Unit for their sterling work and rapid response to complaints.

Maluleke said crime is committed by criminals known to the victims, who are repeat offenders desperate for quick cash to buy drugs.
