Why local resident chose not to vote in the recent elections

Hlongwane states that as a resident of White City, he has been experiencing a problem of not having electricity.

Sizwe Hlongwane, a local resident states reasons as to why he was not interested in voting at this year’s National Elections which took place on May 29.

The recent elections have been all that South Africans talk about since the beginning of the year and one of the big things that get raised is poor service delivery that has been a challenge for many of the country’s townships.

Hlongwane states that as a resident of White City, he has been experiencing a problem of not having electricity.

He and his fellow residents feel ignored by the authorities which has led them to taking matters into their own hands by seeking help elsewhere.

Sizwe Hlongwane a White City resident who didn’t vote.

“We didn’t have electricity last ear in August and no one helped us until December when we came up with the solution of contributing as the community and finding a person to help us fix the danger box.

“We still don’t have electricity right now and it’s been three months now with no one attending to this matter. I feel like my rights are being violated as a resident,” said Hlongwane.

He then went on to speak about what propelled him into making the decision he has made to not vote. He said his decision is mainly influenced by a trend of poor service delivery across the country.

“I decided not to vote in these elections because I feel like the current ruling party has not followed the Batho Pele principles and actually put people first.

“There is no change and we are 30 years into democracy,” stated Hlongwane.
