McDonald’s SA gives back to senior citizens in Eldos

According to Daniel Padiachy, Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s SA, this initiative reflects their belief in supporting and empowering local communities through meaningful and impactful actions.

McDonald’s South Africa put bright smiles on the faces of Eldorado Park senior citizens residing at the Andries Meyer Old Age Home (AMOAH) as they offered them free haircuts, on May 16.

Armed with clippers, combs, scissors, shave brushes and neck dusters inside their mobile barber vehicle, the McDonald’s team visited the old age home to revamp the elder’s look through the ongoing Together Mzansi Community initiative.

“At McDonald’s South Africa, we believe in more than just serving delicious moments of love.

“We are dedicated to supporting and empowering our communities through initiatives focused on literacy, education, sustainability, and social impact,” said Padiachy.

Andries Meyer Old Age Home residents delighted by McDonald’s at their retirement home at Eldorado Park, on May 16.

“Providing free haircuts through our Mobile Barber initiatives to the residents of AMOAH is a way for us to show respect, dignity and care to those who are often overlooked. This is one way where we acknowledge that there is no us with you.”

Veronica Nyembe, a professional nurse from the retirement home expressed gratitude to McDonald’s citing that the elders were overindulged and they were extremely happy.

She said they started with haircuts in the morning and during tea break, they sponsored them with coffee and later provided them with launch.

“This was an excellent initiative, everyone was pampered and we provided haircuts for them. It also was something nice and special for them to have their hair cut by professionals,” said Nyembe.

The popular fast food joint is committed to creating a positive social impact and enriching the lives of the communities they serve.

Padiachy noted that they work through a variety of initiatives to support literacy, education, sustainability, and social well-being.

“Our mission goes beyond serving delicious food; we aim to make meaningful contributions that empower and uplift individuals across the nation.”

Founded by Elizabeth Harriesunker, the Mobile Barber team use their hair-cutting and barber skills in the best way, offering free haircuts to people in orphanages, disability homes, old age homes, skill centres, and schools.

“The project brings everyone involved immense joy, especially when seeing the happiness on our clients’ faces. Who doesn’t love the feeling of having their hair done,” asked Harriesunker.

“For many, this is a luxury they look forward to regularly. The mobile barber team is changing lives, one haircut at a time and we are loving it.”
