She also presented plans on how they will deal with the economy, job creation, crime, corruption, education, and immigration.

“A Universal Basic Income (UBI) grant is not a socialist or communist proposition; it is actually more capitalistic because if you think about it, if people get a UBI the Universal Basic Income businesses will grow much more.

“I think this system that we are trying to put together will create many more billionaires than we can ever imagine because those with businesses will grow and those with business ideas will be able to implement them,” said Kekana.

“We’ve done the numbers for the last six or seven years and the number that we have come up with based on the population above the age of 18 is R1, 25 trillion.

The way we will raise the funding is through what we call Universal Sales Tax, a parallel tax outside the current tax regime.

“We’re proposing that if you buy any goods and services, we add a certain percentage.

“For example, if you buy a bottle of water at the supermarket we will add R1,50 to R2 on a R10 and that is the amount we are going to use for that.”

BIG SA was formed in 2018 with the belief that it will tackle the worst form of poverty through the provision of a universal basic income grant of R1500 to R3500 that will cover everyone including employed people.

In the party’s 25-point manifesto, Kekana focused more on the seven priority mandates which are; No more hunger, No more poverty, No more unemployment, No more illegal immigrants, No more crime, No more corruption, No more teenage or unwanted pregnancy.

One of the young members of BIG SA, Tefo Skhosana commented, “BIG SA is going to bring about big changes in South Africa because I believe it’s going to bring jobs. Currently, the economy is bad especially because the youth are unemployed.
