70 pairs of school shoes donated to Faranani Primary School

Teachers had to select the more than 70 learners to be given the shoes on the day and the smiles on their faces proved that it is something that will make them want to keep going to school.

Local security company, Base 5 Guard has embarked on a mission to donate 3000 pairs of shoes this year.

The Protea Glen based company kicked off the campaign in January and will run until Mandela Day which is celebrated on July 18.

This past Friday, the campaign visited Faranani Primary School in Extension 11 where more than 70 pairs of shoes were handed to learners who needed them the most.

Nonhlanhla Moshimane, Base 5 Guard Financial Director said the initiative was inspired by her own upbringing and experience of not having school shoes.

As a way of giving back to the community and making sure that no child goes to school without proper shoes, Moshimane initiated the campaign, targeting schools in Soweto and surrounding areas.

“The aim is to help learners who don’t have school shoes. We started at Mzamo Primary School in Orlando and today we are here at Faranani Primary School to make sure that we continue giving back to our community,” said Moshimane.

“Our theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Together we can’ meaning that we can achieve a lot if we work together with our communities.”

The campaign is not only targeting communities that Base 5 Guard operates in but the aim is to reach as many schools as possible across the province.

Areas like Cosmo City and Diepsloot have also been earmarked as next in line to receive these donations.

Learners and teachers at Faranani Primary School expressed their appreciation to the security company for being one of the schools selected to receive the shoe donations.

Teachers had to select the more than 70 learners to be given the shoes on the day and the smiles on their faces proved that it is something that will make them want to keep going to school.

“As a school we are very delighted to be selected as one of the schools to benefit from this initiative,” said the Deputy Principal at Faranani Primary School, Dumisani Manana.

“It is always painful to see our children coming to school with old shoes or with none at all. In most cases we don’t have enough resources to assist all of them, so we really appreciate Base 5 Guard for bringing such gifts to our children.”

Manana emphasized how the new shoes will boost the morale of the learners in class as they will now have confidence.

His words were echoed by member of the School Governing Body (SGB), Mbali Mpete saying it is very important for children to be happy and confident when going to school and the new shoes will help make sure that happens.

“Thank you so much to Base 5 Guard for what they have done for our children. I don’t have enough words to express my appreciation, I wish God bless them with more so they can continue with their good work to other schools as well,” concluded Mpete.
