Playground area launched at local home centre

"Our goal is to meet the needs of the community, with a primary focus on keeping the children safe."

The Soweto Home Based Caregivers together with Nurses with Purpose recently launched a ground-breaking playground area in White City.

Soweto Home Based Caregivers is a non-profit organisation that works to improve the welfare of the elderly people as well as underprivileged children by providing afternoon meals to them.

According to Soweto Home Based Caregivers Project Manager, Jude Mazibuko, the playground that is being constructed will greatly increase the safety of the kids who eat lunch at the centre, because usually when they wait for their meals, they play on unsafe streets.

The playground will provide a safe environment where they can play while caregivers keep a watchful eye on them.

“Today is a very special day for us, especially for me because I have been working for almost four years to get funding to build this playground.

“I have seen that the kids are not safe playing on the street while they wait for their meals. Some of them even sit there to eat, so this playground is set to definitely make a big difference for this centre,” said Mazibuko.

Mazibuko added that he is extremely thankful to Nurses with Purpose for seeing his vision and being involved in accomplishing his dream.

Nurses with Purpose director and founder, Elaine Alston said their organisation provides more than just medical care, they strive to bridge any gaps in communities which is why they partnered with Soweto Home Based Caregiver so as to meet the children’s needs.

One of the volunteers at Soweto Home Based Caregivers, Paulina Letladi said as a parent seeing the centre having a playground gives her a sense of comfort.

“We typically run into the issue of the kids standing in the street while we feed them, which prevents us from having the opportunity to spend time up close and personal with them while at the centre.

“With this playground, we can ensure that the kids are safe and that we have the opportunity to get to know them better,” said Letladi.
