Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) officially opened Moema Park in Soweto on March 01.

This development marks the culmination of a successful partnership between JCPZ and South African Townships and rural development institute NPO (SA Townships), who have transformed a once derelict space into a state-of-the-art park that now serves as a source of pride and enjoyment for the community.

Previously in a state of disrepair, Moema Park was adopted by SA Townships, a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving townships across South Africa.

“Moema Park is a testament to the power of collaboration in making our city a greener, more vibrant place.

“I commend SA Townships for their unwavering commitment to this project, which has not only revitalised the physical landscape but also uplifted the lives of residents living in the surroundings of the park. ” says MMC for Community Development in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Lubabalo Magwentshu.

The partnership between JCPZ and SA Townships extends beyond the initial development of the park as SA Townships will continue to provide ongoing maintenance to sustain the revitalised park, freeing up JCPZ resources to address the needs of other green lungs in Soweto.
