The City of Joburg’s Arts Alive Festival hosted the Indigenous Gospel Festival: Clap ‘n Tap and AmaZion Interdenominational Choirs and Amapostolo at the Soweto Theatre.

This was the seventh annual indigenous gospel festival and on Saturday they hosted Ama Zion with 11 choirs.

“The whole aim behind the choir festival is to bring this music to the people because we have realised that indigenous music is not recognised, we always have Jazz, Kwaito and many other festivals.

“But we never have gospel festivals, it is rare were you get emerging choirs who perform on such festivals,” said Nomgqibelo Dikole, the project leader of indigenous gospel festival.

Clap ‘n Tap and AmaZion are some of South Africa’s musical offerings that are most unique, with an acapella-style that is symbolic of religious and cultural expression.

The event was open to applicants in and outside of Johannesburg to further highlight and celebrate the amazing genres in this sector.
