The school is reported to be facing multiple challenges that hinders it from becoming one of the great performing schools.

Due to the 2023 poor matric results, Klipspruit West Secondary School aims to change the narrative and mend their reputation by unpacking the challenges that may have led them to their poor performance.

The school is reported to be facing multiple challenges that hinders it from becoming one of the great performing schools. They have an issue of poor parental involvement when it comes to attending school meetings as well as uncommitted learners.

“We as the teachers do not have the conscious of prioritising the souls of these young people, all we do is bunk classes.

“The community does feel indebted to ensuring that our learners stay at school, while parents poorly attend school meetings,” said Davids.

“We should all account for the failure of our school because this is a joint partnership between learners, educators and parents,” he added.

In spite of the problems that the school is currently facing, the principal together with his team are coming up with solutions to improve the performance of the learners. The principal explained that they are trying to change their behaviour and move as a unity.

“We have a company that will engage with our Grade 8 learners on a five-year programme dealing with Mathematics and English. This is to revisit the foundation of these subjects for our learners,” said Davids.

“Learners will attend every Saturday without any costs. All we want is their dedication and the parent’s willingness to invest in the education of their children,” Davids explained.

They are also planning on starting a cleaning campaign that aims to restore the dignity of the school.

Michelle Joseph, an alumnus at Klipspruit West believes that children need to be reminded of the importance of taking care of their school.

“The whole idea of this cleaning campaign is that learners come and clean their school with the community.

“If they come in to do the work, they will not only appreciate their school but they will look after it more, because it is their effort,” said Joseph.

Change does not happen overnight but the principal and his team are making their way to greener pastures, which is change and growth.
