Diepkloof beauty queen gets crowned

Bila who is not just a beauty queen is due to graduate as an accounting student and is grateful for her self-confidence that keeps her going.

Driven by the passion to make it in the modelling industry, Vanessa Bila (21), believes that modelling will allow her to spread her wings, fly high and reach new possibilities.

The Diepkloof resident discovered her passion at a young age but it all came into reality in 2021 when she began practising her catwalk with heels in front of the camera.

“Seeing your dreams come true before even achieving them was one of the things that helped start this journey and I am very glad that I took a leap of faith and did what I have always dreamt of doing from a very young age,” Bila said.

She added that her journey in the industry began when she was crowned the second princess of Miss Mhinga 2021/2022 which was followed by being the queen of Miss Giyani 2021/2022, and from there she never stopped aiming for the stars.

Bila was one of the young women who took part in the Miss Diepkloof 2023/2024 pageant where she was crowned the queen.

Bila was crowned the queen of Miss Diepkloof 2023/2024.

She showcased her footwork skills and articulation in answering questions asked by the judges.

She was also a finalist in Miss Township SA 2022 and crowned Miss Essence Princess for 2023/2024.

“There are a lot of brilliant black women in the industry who I draw inspiration from such as the former Miss South Africa, Shudufadzo Musida.

“Witnessing these women positively change the way we see ‘beauty queens’ in the industry has been a game changer for me but most importantly seeing them make changes in their respective communities always reminds me of the importance of serving those around us.”

“I for one see myself as the next Miss South Africa and I know the stakes set by these wonderful women are high, therefore I aim to work even extra harder to reach that level of my career.”

“Self-confidence is one of the great personal aspects every model should have because there is absolutely no need to have experience in this industry.

“One needs to put on their A-game and see themselves as a winner even before starting with this journey.

“Confidence is what will pull through for you in competitions followed by embracing one’s true self and being humble at all times, no matter how much you think you might know at that time.”

One of her aspirations for this year is to be crowned as the queen of Miss Inspire 2024/2025 that she is currently a finalist in and she urges Sowetans to help her bring the crown home by casting their votes.

“Winning this crown is important for me as a Diepkloof based young beauty queen who aspires to change the narrative of how models and beauty standards are portrayed by mass media.

“It all begins here, not only do I aspire to win the crown but I will be in a platform where I will wear a crown of responsibilities and duties that I will enable my inner and outer beauty as well as brain.”
