Karate club opens for the new season

The Kofukan South Africa’s Dojo is thrilled to announce their opening for the new season.

The Dojo, based in Diekloof Hall held their first Gashuku also known as the squad training in preparations their upcoming Gauteng Provincial Karate Championships that will be held at the Orlando Communal Hall from February 17 to 18.

The sensei of Kofukan South Africa, Thabo Molubi said that it is nice to see a tournament of this magnitude taking place in our own home ground.

“This serves as a motivation for our athletes to perform even stronger at home because they always travel outside of Soweto to attend Karate Championships.

“I am extremely excited about these Gauteng Championships because most of the athletes have qualified to take part and represent the Johannesburg Karate Federation,” Molubi said.

All the karatekas of Gauteng from all the five regions namely, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, West Rand and Sedibeng will be battling it out on all the Elite and Development divisions to grab a spot in the nationals.

“It’s very nice to see our athletes so pumped up especially now at the beginning of the year and aiming for great things ahead of the year.

“I will be bringing a lot of Karate tournaments in and around Soweto this year for awareness and exposure purposes.

“We definitely need to revive the sport of Karate in Soweto as it used to be one of the popular sports in the 80s and 90s.”

On May 04 they will be hosting the Shito-ryu Championships and residents who are interested in joining the Karate team can contact sensei Thabo Molubi on 079 921 3600.
