Firefighters sustain injuries after attacked by protesters in Eldorado Park

Angry residents stone fire truck during a service delivery protest.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi has condemned the attack on firefighters by protesting residents of Eldorado Park.

This comes after a fire truck responding to a fire incident in the area was allegedly attacked with stones by a group of angry residents on Sunday.

According to reports, three firefighters were rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries during the attack.

Mulaudzi also took to social media where he urged residents to refrain from attacking EMS personnel while on duty.

“This does not only create fear and personnel amongst EMS personnel but it also disrupts service delivery to our communities at large,” Mulaudzi wrote on her Twitter page on Monday.

The protest and anger of residents was sparked by a power outage caused by a tripping at a local power station this past weekend.

Residents of Extension Three where the firefighters were attacked were amongst those affected by the power outage. There have been no reports of arrests being made in relation to the incident.
