Herman Mashaba and his team booted out of Tshepisong school

The man questioned Mashaba's visit to the school citing it was a disruption to learning and teaching.

ActionSA’s visit to Wiseman Cele Secondary School in Tshepisong descended into choas after an angry community member stormed into a meeting, accusing the party of campaigning at the school.

The meeting led by party president, Herman Mashaba and provincial chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni abruptly ended when the unidentified man, said to be a community member demanded the principal to remove the party from the school premises.

The man questioned Mashaba’s visit to the school citing it was a disruption to learning and teaching.

Mashaba was due to give motivational talks to matric learners after the school achieved a 100% pass rate.

However Mashaba, speaking outside the school, denied being booted out of the meeting.

ActionSA leadership in a meeting with the school management during their visit on Tuesday.

“No one chased us out of the school. As we were about to finish, some criminal just came in and wanted to disrupt. We are not sure what his issue was because this meeting with the principal was during lunch time and wants to accuse the principal of abdicating their responsibility,” he explained.

Despite the disruptions, Mashaba says the discussions were focused on the SA education system and the party’s stance on relevant education policies.

“ActionSA is a big threat to all these people who have destroyed our education over the last 30 years.

“We shared ActionSA policies on schooling. We as a party are saying that no union will have veto right on our education policies.

“Our commitment is that we must have one Department of Education and school principals are going to be appointed by the Department working with the community. We will ensure we bring back school inspectors who can access schools at anytime”.

Mashaba began his visit in Durban Deep Primary School where he donated school shoes to needy learners ahead of the academic year.

Earlier this month, the party led an oversight visit to the school to assess deteriorating infrastructure.

The institution has only eight toilet facilities which are functional and shared by 1200 learners.
