“This year we are coming up with new ways to help keep parents engaged in the education of the children because we believe that education is a three legged pot that needs the school, parents and learner involved.

“One of the of the first ways we are planning to go about this is investing in a communication system that will keep parents updated about all the activities happening in the school as well as all the areas where the learners lack,” Makhetha said.

He added that since the number of leaners in the school is growing, the department has ensured that there are two teachers employed permanently to help lessen the work load among the teachers.

“The performance of the school is good, the overall percentage in the intersen phase 99 percent. Only one learner was not able to make it to Grade five and this shows the commitment of the school management.

“Due to our results speaking for themselves, we have now introduced Grade RR since parents were coming forward to enrol learners into the school.”

Makhetha advised parents of the new learners to familiarise themselves with the code of conduct of the school.

“We are operating on an open-door policy where openness is the key. The only way that we can work well with the new parents is through conducting an open day for Grade RR to take the parents on an orientation to give them knowledge on the way the school operates as well as to answer all the questions they may be having from today.”

One of the parents, Lebohang Mashaba was thrilled to witness her son’s first day of school and said, “This is indeed a milestone of our lives. I wish my son nothing but the best as he steps into this new chapter of his life.”
