Emdeni Secondary School celebrates a distinction matric pass rate

According to the statistics provided by the principal, the school had 114 learners who wrote the matric exams and 45 learners obtained bachelors, 32 diplomas and 20 higher certificates.

Emdeni Secondary School has succeeded in achieving a good distinction matric pass rate for the second year in a row.

The school has achieved a matric pass rate of 84.4%, a little decrease from the 87.7% obtained in the 2022 National Senior Certificate.

Scenes of exhilaration and happiness engulfed the school premises as a large number of former matric learners collected their matric results on January 19.

Speaking to Urban News, Emdeni Secondary School principal, Tebogo Mashigo said even though the 2023 matric results have dropped, the percentage that the school has obtained is still a symbol of good results.

“With the outcome we have achieved, I feel elevated, I’m over the moon and also motivated.

“These results have proven that we are ready for 2024 and we are aiming for a new territory which is to attain above 90% matric pass rate,” said Mashigo.

Business Studies is one of the subjects that have seen a lot of success with a pass rate of 92%.

Nothile Mdluli, a Business Studies teacher stated that she was very proud of her learners because they worked really hard.

“This year we did very well, we did more than what I actually aimed for. I aimed for 90% but we got 92%, so I’m over the moon, I’m beyond excited and very happy,” said Mdluli.

During the collection of matric certificate

Sisekelo Mavundla who got two distinctions in Business Studies and Economics told Urban News that the results he got were through hard work and determination.

“I worked really hard during the exam season and I made sure that I prioritise my school work more than anything.

“I also understood the responsibility that comes with wanting to have a matric certificate that will qualify me to get to university, so I am really excited for the future, “said Mavundla.
