2024 is the ‘Year of the Dragon’

On the Chinese calendar, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon.

According to the website China Highlights, ‘The Dragon symbolises power, nobleness, honor, luck, and success in traditional Chinese culture. The Chinese dragon is the most vital and powerful beast in the Chinese zodiac and is gifted with innate courage, tenacity, and intelligence, Dragons are enthusiastic and confident’.

It states further, “In Chinese five-element theory, each zodiac sign is associated with one of the five elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, or Earth.”

It also names five types of dragons, each with different characteristics:

• Wood Dragons (born in 1964 and 2024) – introverted, less enthusiastic and lacking in good relationships
• Fire Dragons (born in 1916 and 1976) – smart, easygoing, agile and flexible
• Earth Dragons (born in 1928 and 1988) – smart, ambitious and hardworking
• Gold Dragons (born in 1940 and 2000) – natural, straightforward, talented and desire to be seen
• Water Dragons (born in 1952 and 2012) – persevering, farsighted and vigorous

Famous Rabbit Year people include Charles Darwin, Bruce Lee, John Lennon and Vladimir Putin.

So-called lucky dragon colours are gold, silver, and grayish white, while ‘lucky numbers’ are one, six and seven.
