Putco fare increment for 2024 announced

This according to the company was due to the uncontrollable and soaring fuel expenses in 2022.

Putco bus commuters will have to dig a little deeper in their pockets as the bus company announces an annual price hike of 5% to be imposed in the coming year.

The bus company says it aimed to keep the modification below the inflation rate.

Putco says the adjustment for 2024 is a significant improvement compared to the unprecedented 19% surge experienced last year.

This according to the company was due to the uncontrollable and soaring fuel expenses in 2022.

“Despite facing increased costs in various operational facets such as salaries, fuel and oil, fleet maintenance, rates and taxes, we have diligently worked to absorb as much of these costs as possible to shield our passengers from the brunt of economic challenges,” said Putco spokesperson, Lindokuhle Xulu.

Xulu says the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s new bus transport contracts that commenced in July enabled Putco to maintain affordable fare prices while improving services.

Putco has to date injected 180 state-of-the-art buses into the existing fleet from its vigorous bus replacement programme initiated in July 2022.
