20-year-old Paige Harvey was crowned Miss Soweto 2023/24 at the grand finale held at Gibson Kente Theater, Soweto Theater over the weekend.

She competed at the 44th pageant and joins a lineage of the 40 plus previous winners including the legendary Miss World finalist and businesswoman Basetsana Khumalo, Augustine Masilela, Miss Universe semi-finalist and Founder and CEO of The Image Firm, and deejay and media personality, Lerato Kganyago.

On the eve of her birthday, the Eldorado Park beauty came out on top walking away with a R100 000 cheque and sponsorships for a year with various endorsement deals.

Lethukuthula Ayanda Maseko (24) was crowned the first Princess, and Nhlakanipho Amandla Mkongi (22) took the second princess crown.

Harvey won the hearts of the judges headed by Bridget Masinga, Grace Mantjiu, Emmanuel Tjiya and Sammy Mhaule, revealing that she is more than just beauty with a smashing impressive Q &A session on how she plans to encourage the youth to get to the polls in 2024.

No stranger to the political space, she is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Political Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Her reign was written in the stars, as she previously entered the pageant in 2022 but did not make it into the top 40.

“I feel so much gratitude, I’ve wanted this since the age of 16 so a lot of mixed emotions at the moment but overall happy and excited at this new chapter that begins after today, serving the community of Soweto and pushing brand Soweto,” she said, moments after her crowning.

Other winners during the night included Miss Social Butterfly won by Ofentse Pitso and Miss Congeniality snatched by Lethaukuthula Ayanda Maseko.

Talking about her reign and the projects she will be focusing on during her reign, she said she wanted to use her platform as an advocacy to empower people of Soweto, especially the youth.

“Throughout my reign, I will be focused on campaigns and programmes on empowerment beyond the pageant stage and into real life, be it on women, men and young men and girls .

“I think there is so much strength when the youth unites, as you heard in my answer we are the population, and once we understand the power of our voice, the power of our yes and numbers – we are unstoppable as the youth.”
