Ball Talent an elevator for undiscovered players

The innovation aims to promote sports amongst young people and uplift vulnerable youth.

Simon Mokgotlhoa and Lesego Ndlovu, born and bred in Pimville have created a web base platform called Ball Talent, for professional community sports clubs to recruit young people across sporting codes.

Ball Talent is a platform that aims to showcase local talent to international scouts.

It basically opens the channels to undiscovered talent from the township. This advanced software is designed for sports clubs, scouts and players to connect professional institutions to young sporting talent.

“We are talking about people that would never get this opportunity because they reside in previously disadvantaged communities.

“Because really in sports or anywhere else in life these opportunities usually go to the well-connected or the privileged,” Mokgotlhoa explains.

It is no secret that majority of talented young people from townships never make it to professional or advanced levels.

They can have what it takes to be at the top but right before they can get scouted and recognised finances and resources become their obstacle.

“Ball talent focuses on sports alone because we grew up having seen talented players go undiscovered, that happened not only to people who we looked up to but also our peers as well.

“That is when we realised that there is a huge pool of talent that goes undiscovered,” Ndlovu adds.

The innovation aims to promote sports amongst young people and uplift vulnerable youth.

Mokgotlhoa explains how it works, “We create digital profiles for players by recording them when they play their matches. International scouts can then subscribe and pay to get access to the data and footage.

“For players it is free because they need the exposure and platform to showcase their talent and receive sponsorships and scholarships because both education and sports are important.”

According to Ndlovu they are focusing on uplifting talent within their communities because talented kids will not make it on their own. They are the vehicle that seeks to elevate talented township players to playing abroad and turning their dreams into reality.

“Given the current unemployment rate in our communities and also the issues of drugs and mental health, sports is one of the things that brings people together emancipating them from life challenges and idle mindsets,” says Ndlovu.

To all young talent that is not yet discovered, an opportunity has presented itself and this could be your big break.
