Gauteng Police offer a R50 000 reward for alleged serial rapist

Two cases involving the suspect were reported in Syferkuil, a township in North West Province.

Police in Gauteng say an alleged serial rapist linked to a string of rape cases is on the loose.

Police on Wednesday issued a bolo alert offering a R50 000 reward for any information that can lead to the arrest and conviction of the alleged serial rapist believed to be in his late 30s.

The suspect has been linked to 42 cases of rape, where he mostly operates in Orlando and Diepkloof.

Two cases involving the suspect were reported in Syferkuil, a township in North West Province.

Cases were tracked from as far back as September 2008, with the recent case in January 2023.

According to the police, the modus operandi of the suspect is to accost his victims and demands money and cellphones before committing sexual assault.

“The armed suspect targets his victims in the streets, homes, shops, and entertainment areas, where he would coerce them to secluded places,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

The victims consist of females ranging from 14 to 53 years of age.

“Police have mobilised maximum resources in the search for the suspect, including offering a R50 000 cash reward to anyone who can urgently assist with information that could lead to the apprehension and prosecution of the alleged serial rapist,” Masondo continued.
