Golf day held in memory of the late cancer activist at Soweto Country Club

Phezulu Golf Club and The Grip Golf Clinics Africa came together on Friday, October 20 to host a special gold day for one of their fallen soldiers, Lerato Moloko who passed on due to cancer.
The celebration took place at the Soweto Country Club.
On this day a year ago, cancer activist and Philanthropist Lerato Moloko succumbed to stomach cancer, leaving both her parents and golf mates in disbelief and with saddened hearts.

The purpose of the anniversary memorial was to honour the remarkable life Lerato lived as a golfer.

Eso Moloko, Lerato’s father said, “Today we are gathered here to remember our daughter who had a selfless heart.
“This is the day of happiness, unlike last year on this day when we were broken by the death of our daughter, today we get to celebrate her life with cheerful souls.”

“Lerato initiated The Grip organisation with a vision as profound as her commitment.
“The Grip aimed to democratise the sport of golf, making it accessible to all.
“This organisation will be launched to breathe life into her noble dream,” said Sandile Africa, Phezulu Golf Club President.

The designation of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in South Africa reflects a nationwide drive by public and private healthcare structures to raise awareness of this devastating disease across all races and class structures.

“She believed that golf will draw our young people from drugs and idle thinking because it’s one sport that has no age barriers.
“So, we must devise means to make golf affordable for all in honour our late daughter,” Lerato father Moloko concluded.
