Diepkloof Half Marathon is back

Excitement is mounting as runners prepare for this year’s Diepkloof Half Marathon scheduled to take place this weekend on October 22.

Excitement is mounting as runners prepare for this year’s Diepkloof Half Marathon scheduled to take place this weekend on October 22.

Hosted by one of the biggest community-based clubs, Diepkloof Athletic Club, the race has a reputation of attracting runners from all walks of life.

The Diepkloof Half Marathon will comprise of a 21km run, 10km run/walk and a 5km fun run, with an estimated 3 000 entrants expected to take part in this year’s race.

“This year’s half marathon promises to be the biggest yet, with registrations already surpassing the previous years’ figures after COVID19 with a few more days to go,” said Sebenzile Mothei from the Diepkloof Athletics Club Marketing Department.

“Having Diepkloof Square, Lucas Radebe Foundation, Hollywoodbets, Highend IT Solutions, Move the Nation, Popo Security and Soweto Toyota on board has enabled us to raise the profile of the race.”

#Sishaya’buya is the theme for this year’s race and it is in line with the excitement that comes with the return of the event after COVID19 disruptions.

The sponsors and all stakeholders involved have also expressed their commitment in partnering with local communities in promoting a healthy lifestyle and building a better future for everyone.

“This is a milestone year for the Diepkloof Athletics Club and the slogan for 2023 is #Sishaya’buya after not hosting the race for three years due to COVID19. We call upon all those interested in running to register and be part of what promises to be a cheerful and festive atmosphere,” added Mothei.

Registrations are still open and runners have until 4:45am on the morning of October 22 to register.

Runners can make their way to the Diepkloof Multipurpose Hall to register for this historic race.

The Orlando Communal Hall is also open for runners to register and get more information about the race.
