Johannes Tshabalala (92), of Jabulani goes missing

“We knew something was wrong because it’s just unlike him to not return."

Search efforts to trace 92-year- old Johannes Tshabalala have not yielded any positive results, two months since he went missing.

The Tshabalala family, which launched a search following his disappearance on August 4, said they have been having sleepless nights since the incident.

The family told the publication that the elder left the house without notifying anybody where he was going.

That was the last time they saw or heard from him.

“Like any other day, we didn’t see or find anything strange.

“Mkhulu was preparing to leave the house, he looked well dressed and nothing was amiss. He left the house but didn’t say where he was going,” explains granddaughter, Phumzile Nwaila.

Nwaila said when he did not return back in the evening they became anxiously worried and filed a missing person’s case at Jabulani Police Station.

“We knew something was wrong because it’s just unlike him to not return.

“From the people that we know, they said they saw him at a nearby car wash, which is situated less than a kilometre from where he stays in Jabulani. But that is all we ever heard. It’s like he just vanished.”

Tshabalala was last seen wearing brown pants, a khaki golf t-shirt, brown blazer, and a Grey Winter hoodie. He was driving a blue/grey Toyota Tazz.

Nwaila said since his disappearance, family life has not been the same as they still have many questions about his whereabouts. They added that they were greatly worried as Tshabalala was on chronic medication and his health was fragile.

“It has been extremely difficult. Everyone is worried, given how long he has gone missing. We don’t know what to think, where he is, or what he is eating.

“He is someone with fragile health due to old age. No tangible information has come up since his disappearance. We are praying for his safe return.”

The Tshabalala family appealed to anyone with information to come forward or contact the family directly on 079 083 7375 and 083 372 4104
